What whiskey is good but doesn’t have an overpowering alcohol taste?

Question by The Invisible Hand/Illuminati: What whiskey is good but doesn’t have an overpowering alcohol taste?
I am looking at trying whiskies and am willing to pay some good money for a good whiskey. But I want to find a whiskey that doesn’t have an extremely overpowering alcohol taste?

I’m looking for smoothness, nice taste, and doesn’t require water to make it mild.

Please provide some suggestions.

I think Johnnie Walker Red Label would be quite a good choice. It is not so hard, really smooth and tastes nice. Good scotch for beginners.

Jim Beam is a mild whiskey unlike Jack Daniels which is quit strong.

Generally, the more you pay, the better the whiskey. Go to a decent liquor store, most will have ratings on the shelves. Single barrel batches tend to be really smooth.

the thing about whiskey is it all has an overpowering alcohol taste to it. Even the mildest ones are rough for newcomers. Thats why generally people order bourbon and coke or some other mixer with it. Whiskey is an aquired taste, and the only way to aquire it is to get used to it.
