What’s the difference between automotive tech and automotive engineer?

Question by nankumar: What’s the difference between automotive tech and automotive engineer?
I’m trying to decide what to do with my future in terms of education, i’ve narrowed it down between a mechanic and an AUTOMOTIVE engineer, i capitalized automotive because the school i want to go to (University of Ontario Institute of Technology) has a different course for mechanical engineering (from what i understand, mech engineers learn a variety of different stuff while auto engineers learn specifically to automotive). But anyways down to the point, what does an automotive engineer do vs a mechanic? i saw a video of what an engineer does but to me it seemed like he was just a mechanic who worked on high end cars vs the mechanic that works at let’s say honda who works on average cars? if someone can clear up the difference for me and just explain to me what an automotive engineer does? (work setting, average salary, job security etc.)

An engineer designs and builds things. A tech services the things an engineer built. Both of them are good professions, but an engineer usually makes more money.

Automotive Engineer is a problem solver and designer of automotive systems such as electrical, software, and mechanical. They work with car manufacturers to design cars, but they have no say in the aesthetics of the exterior or interior design. $ 45,000-90,000 per year working full time based on experience.

Automotive Tech: Just a mechanic. Fixes cars. $ 30,000-40,000 per year salary working full time.
