What is a communications degree and what do you study on in at University?

Question by Lilly: What is a communications degree and what do you study on in at University?
I am looking into what I want to have a masters in and I wanted journalism or broadcasting but recently I found out that there is such thing as a communications degree.

What is it?

I want to work in the radio or write columns or be some form of a presenter. Would one of these would be possible to accomplish with communications degree?

What do I learn?
How does the uni course look like?

It’s a worthless degree, and won’t prepare you for any of those careers.

    Two girls I know are nightly anchors on local news programs in their areas. They both majored in communications.

    Maybe Rick knows a better degree for that kind of job. Journalism, broadcasting, communications all seem reasonable degrees to pursue for the kind of career you want. If you want to write, do journalism.

    What do you study? We will have to wait for other answers.

    While communications is the correct degree for what you are aiming for, your problem is that there are no where enough jobs in the field for all of the communications majors. Communications is a popular and considered a ” soft or easy” major by many. Interestingly enough many anchors have law degrees.
