Championship Week Of The 2013 NCAA Football Season

National College Football Championship aspirations were still on the line for a few teams vying for their respective conference crowns. We had the nation’s number one team (Florida State) in a “laugher” versus Duke, while the nos. 2 and 10 met (Big 10), along with the 3 vs. 5 in the SEC.

Florida State 45, Duke 7

This one was all but a foregone conclusion. There was more drama surrounding the Seminoles quarterback during the week then the outcome of this game.

Speaking of jersey number 5, Jameis Winston for Florida State, all he did was score 4 touchdowns ( 3 passing) in (1) Florida States 45-7 rout of (20) Duke Saturday night.

This was the Seminoles second straight ACC conference championship, but was just a minor precursor to bigger things to come. That would be the National Championship Game on Jan.6th.

Michigan State 34, Ohio State 24

It appeared (10) Michigan States defense might dominate this game from the beginning when the Spartans led 17-0 midway through the 2nd quarter.

(2) Ohio State scored 10 points before the half making it a game and then they took the lead 24-17 behind QB Braxton Miller (jersey no. 5). Miller used his legs instead of arm on 2 running touchdowns of 8 and 6 yards respectively after the intermission.

However, the MSU defense reemerged and the Buckeyes were stuck on 24 the rest of the way. In the meantime, the Spartans kicked a field goal towards the end of the 3rd quarter and scored 2 touchdowns in the final frame to claim a 34-24 victory.

This was the first loss by Ohio State after 24 consecutive wins and dashed their hopes of playing for the national title in Pasadena. Michigan State will now travel there to play in the Rose Bowl.  Spartan fans wear your jerseys with pride!

Auburn 59, Missouri 42

If you like offense, the Georgia Dome in Atlanta was the place to be as Tigers from both sides of the field ran (and threw) amok Saturday afternoon.

The final tally was 101 total points scored in (3) Auburns 59-42 win over (5) Mizzou.

The victory put Auburn in the BCS National Championship to face Florida State on January 6.

Two teams who had struggled mightily just a year ago found themselves playing for the SEC crown.

Auburn running back Tre Mason (#21) ran for 304 yards on 46 carries and 4 touchdowns for his lair, while QB James Franklin lived up to his jersey’s number 1 billing by almost matching Masons ground total through the air (303 yards passing) good for 3 Missouri scores.

Auburn led by just 3, 45-42 entering the 4th quarter after Franklin ran the ball in from 5 yards out and then repeated the feat for a 2 point conversion with 9 seconds remaining in the third.

However, Auburn dominated the last quarter behind Mason who scored twice on a 1 yard run then a 13 yarder with 4:22 remaining that gave them the win and a BCS Championship bid.
