Balloon ride over Bagan, Myanmar

Taking a holiday in Myanmar is a great experience and there are lots of options to choose from. Almost certainly you are likely to arrive and depart from Yangon international airport. The first hot tip is if you are taking a flight from Cambodia to Yangon you can obtain your visa to Myanmar on arrival. Although there are many cities and attractions to see including the luxury boat ride from Mandalay to Bagan or vice versa one adventure not to be missed is the Balloon ride over Bagan on your holiday in Myanmar.

The hot air balloon ride is internationally run with all equipment being sent over from Europe and manufactured by British Aerospace. The larger balloon holds up to 12 people and starts off in the early morning. The tour normally starts with an arrangement to see sunrise over Bagan. At around 06:00 you will be picked up from your hotel and take a short drive to the launch site. The flight then takes around 45 minutes and while in the air you will have a bird’s eye view the thousands of temples down below a truly exhilarating experience. One of the temples you will pass is the massive temple of Dhammayangyi built at the end of 12th Century. When you return to back down to the ground you will have a well earned glass of champagne and a small breakfast waiting for you. You can now relax and be one of the proud few people who have experienced the temples of Bagan from above. One thing that may be surprising is that the landing site is not always the launch site and on a windy day you may find you land on the other side of the Ayrewaddy River. In this case you will need to take a boat back across the river and spend a little more time on the drive back. This will add to the experience giving you a little longer to reflect on this unique experience making the holiday in Myanmar complete.

There are a few things to note when planning this into your package holiday to Vietnam. The first is that this trip isn’t suitable for families with young children as children under 8 aren’t permitted to fly. This makes sense as their general rule is that you must be able to see over the basket or there is no point to go on the balloon ride. The specific temples you will see will be restricted to the wind conditions are nature is in charge! The whole journey takes around 3 hours and a great activity to include in your tour packages to Myanmar.
