Comment on Q&A: How to start teaching in a recreation center? by Curt J.
It’s pretty easy to become a contract instructor at a recreation center. Simply contact the recreation department and tell them you would like to be a contract instructor and offer a martial arts class. They will connect you to the correct person. Recreation departments are always looking for good instructors.
You’ll need to fill out a contract instructor application. If they feel it’s a good fit they will work with you to find the right time for your classes. You will also come up with a class fee that works.
Being a contract instructor has its benefits. They will provide the facility for your class and take all the registration so you don’t have to worry about accepting credit cards. The class fees are usually split around 60/40 with you receiving 60% of the fees. One thing you should know is that, if your class actually gets enought participants to run, you won’t get paid until the end of the session, be that 6, 8 or 10+ weeks. This is because there could be refunds due to early drop-outs or there can be additional registrations mid-way through the season.
One last thing, they will place your class in their activity guide but it’s always a good idea to do some of your own advertising with flyers and such.

Q&A: What anxiety medication do you take and how did you first know you needed medication?
Prozac and Klonipin, but I first experienced panic disorder 10 years ago and I was on something different, I was fine for a long time but after the death of my mother it came back. When I had my first panic attack I was 17 and had no idea what the hell was happening to me, I went to the Dr. right way and he gave me a name for it and medicine.
